Borouge Innovation Centre

Supporting customers

The mission of the Innovation Centre is to contribute to making Borouge the leading provider of plastics solutions in the Middle East / Asia region. Strategically located in the Sas Al Nakhl area of Abu Dhabi, the vibrant capital of the United Arab Emirates, it is close to the customers in UAE and the Middle East region, and to the 2 million tons per year Borstar PP and PE production plants in Ruwais. Equipped with state of the art tools for plastic processing and analysing, the Innovation Centre will initially focus on development of pipe, film and moulding applications. Wire and cable applications will be introduced in conjunction with the Borouge 3 project, which increases the production capacity to 4.5 million tons per year.

A smaller Application Centre is located at Borouge's compounding Plant in Shanghai, China. The main focus is development of compounded Automotive applications, and support to customers in the North East Asia region.

Competence build-up

From 2008 to 2011 approximately 50 people, including Borouge and Borealis experts, will be needed to plan, commission and start-up the Innovation Centre. Specifically, this means technicians and researchers for the application hall and analytical and physical testing laboratories, in addition to managers and product developers. We intend to recruit experienced and motivated people for this exciting start-up.

Supporting, customers, production, marketing and sales, Borouge Innovation Centre contributes to Shaping the Future with Plastics.

University cooperation

Further value will be created via cooperation with customers and universities. The Innovation Centre will respond to market needs and enhance education and know-how in plastics material development, not least by providing interesting job opportunities in Abu Dhabi for innovative experts from around the world.
